Richibucto River Retrievers
If you are looking for your next family member, hunting partner, or competition dog, we may have what you are looking for!
Located in Rexton, New Brunswick, our Labradors are built for the field, and have the temperament for active families who like to hike, hunt, or do dog sports. They are perfect for scent detection, cani-cross, obedience, agility and most of all, hunting and hunt tests!
We have had 2 litters as of 2024.
Out of the first 2 litters we have 1 working in search & rescue, 5 working in hunt tests/field trials, another doing cani-cross, scent, and agility and several in obedience and dock diving.
The others are family pets.
Our dogs all have some of the highest hip scores seen in Labrador Retrievers, and we are very proud of their orthopedic health, and genetic screenings. Our dogs are health tested and titled before breeding.

Jack's sire is Cedar from Southern Oak Kennels in Mississippi, who's been featured on many hunting TV series.
Jack comes from a long line of British Field Trial Champions, and he himself has 2 passes of his Master Hunter.
Both dogs are extremely sane, level headed, have a great off switch, and are quiet in the house.
In work they aren't vocal heeling to the line. They are the thinking type, team players and take the work seriously.
Both are kind dogs, no reactivity, good with other dogs and lovely with kids.
They are the kind of dogs that will work hard when you need them, and then lay on the living room floor when you get home.
Will produce great pets and hunters best friends!
ABOUT OUR PUPPY PROCESS
Parent dogs
We take pride in health testing our parent dogs. Many breeders do not health test. They think they do, but what they actually do is health check. A vet check or health check on the puppies is not what we mean by health testing. Health testing parent dogs for diseases common in the breed is what ensures that future generations don't suffer and carry forth those health issues.
All of our breeding dogs have hips and elbows x-rayed before breeding, to check for dysplasia, and get them certified through the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or, in the GSDs, the SV in Germany.
We also do the Embark genetic screening to ensure that we don't breed affected puppies. Our Labs are also screened for eye issues.
We also title our parent dogs before breeding to ensure they are of the correct temperament to carry on the qualities we want in our dogs.
Puppy picking process
We know. You want to choose your own puppy. Unfortunately, we would see more heartbreak if we did it this way. We always TRY to give people the puppy they desire. We always hope it works out that way. But sometimes people want a lower energy dog, and the pup they fell in love with is the rambunctious trouble maker in the litter.
We know our puppies best, after all. We cannot willingly hand over a puppy that we know is a bad match and will most likely make life hard for the future owners.
For this reason, we wait until 7 weeks old before making a final decision on who goes where. At this age, the personalities are more evident. We always have final say on who goes where, and in the end, we have always had happy owners who are grateful that we included them in the process and picked the best match for them.
When you pick up your puppy you will be required to sign a non breeding contract and sales agreement. Our pups come with 30 day health insurance from Trupanion, which we hope you consider to keep on them. They are also health checked by the vet, and have their first set of vaccines, and microchips. They have also been dewormed several times. They have a 2 year health guarantee on genetic disorders. They also come with lifetime breeder support.
We have introduced them to crate training and a leash, and they eat Inukshuk dog food. They have been raised with ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation) and Puppy Culture Program. You can google these processes for info on them.
